Description
This is a complete thirty-two piece sculptural chess set featuring figures representing a Chinese imperial court. The set consists of sixteen cream-coloured pieces and sixteen dark brown pieces. The characters include an emperor and empress as the king and queen, mandarins holding fans as bishops, standing warriors as knights, guardian lions or Fu Dogs as rooks, and seated figures in a greeting gesture as pawns. Each piece is constructed from cast polyresin finished to resemble carved ivory and dark wood or basalt, and each features a green felt-covered base. The set is accompanied by a square wooden playing board with a light and dark wood-grain chequered pattern and a black-painted perimeter border. A simple white cardboard storage box with internal dividers is included for the pieces.

Pawn height: 6.5 cm.
Condition report:
The set is in good overall condition and is complete with all thirty-two pieces and the board present. The figures show minor surface wear and a light accumulation of dust consistent with age and use. The green felt bases remain intact. The cardboard storage box exhibits signs of wear, including some staining and structural softening.
