Description
An assortment of lace making bobbins and accessories. The collection includes a group of East Midlands style bobbins crafted from turned wood, including ebony and fruitwood, as well as carved bone. Many bobbins feature wire spangles threaded with multi-coloured glass and plastic beads. Several wooden bobbins are decorated with hand-painted floral motifs. One bone bobbin bears an incised inscription. The items are contained within a rectangular Anglo-Indian porcupine quill and ebony box. The exterior is composed of vertical porcupine quill panels framed by dark wood with inlaid bone dot decoration. The box features a hinged lid. Accompanying the set are two circular white lace mats, identified as beaded jug or fruit covers. Each cover features a central floral lace panel with a crocheted border integrated with multi-coloured glass beads in shades of blue, red, amber, and black.

Diameter of jug covers: 15 cm – 18 cm.
Condition report:
The items are in good antique and vintage condition. The porcupine quill box shows typical minor losses to individual quills and light surface wear to the wood and bone inlay consistent with age. The bobbins appear well-maintained with the majority of spangles intact. The lace jug covers are clean and free from visible staining or significant fraying.
