Description
This lot comprises four boxes of varying materials and styles. The collection includes a Victorian leather-bound jewellery or travel box, constructed from red morocco leather over a wooden frame. It features a brass shield-shaped escutcheon and includes a functional barrel key. The interior is compartmentalised and lined with dark red textured paper and faded pink silk.
Also included is a 19th-century inlaid wooden work box, likely mahogany or rosewood, decorated with brass stringing and circular corner inlays. The lid displays mother-of-pearl floral scrollwork and a central vacant cartouche. The interior is lined with bright yellow paper.
The third item is a commemorative wooden presentation box featuring a light-toned wood body with a stamped decorative border of circular motifs. The lid is mounted with a white-metal miniature model of a double-barrelled flintlock pistol. A green paper label inside the lid reads: Joseph Egg. No. 1 Piccadilly. 1820 London. 1860. Double-barrelled flint-lock pistol of the type made by Joseph Egg, a member of the renowned family of Royal Gunmakers.
The final item is a small mahogany utility box in the nautical campaign style, featuring brass corner brackets and a central brass anchor inlay on the lid.

Condition report:
The leather-bound box shows significant surface wear, scuffing to the edges, and staining; the interior fabric is separating from the frame. The inlaid wooden box displays wear to the exterior finish and significant tearing and loss to the interior yellow paper lining. The Joseph Egg presentation box is in good overall condition with light shelf wear to the edges. The nautical utility box is in good condition with minor surface scratches consistent with age.
