Lot 196:
Description
An Edwardian sterling silver watch fob chain and pendant manufactured by the Birmingham silversmith William Hair Haseler. The item consists of a curb link chain suspending an ornate shield-shaped fob pendant. The pendant is decorated with a central blank cartouche surrounded by a border of pierced foliate scrollwork and fleur-de-lis motifs. The reverse of the pendant is struck with a series of hallmarks: the maker mark WHH for William Hair Haseler, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter p for the year 1914. Individual links of the chain also bear partial sterling silver hallmark strikes.
Condition report:
The piece is in used condition and is incomplete, as it lacks the T-bar or clasp mechanism usually attached to the end of the chain. There is visible surface tarnishing and oxidation throughout, along with minor surface wear and light scratches consistent with an early 20th-century accessory.
