Description
An assortment of vintage ladies vanity items including several examples by the British maker Stratton. The group contains powder compacts of various forms, including a gold-toned fan-shaped compact with engine-turned radiating ribs and a rectangular black-enamelled vanity case with a pinstripe border, connected by a chain to a cylindrical lipstick holder. Three circular compacts are identified as Stratton by markings on the internal powder puffs: one featuring a white porcelain lid with a rose and blue butterfly motif, another with a central rose bouquet on a textured background, and a third with a concentric engine-turned pattern. The lot also includes a large circular gold-toned compact with a lace-patterned engine-turned lid, a rectangular silver-toned case with raised floral relief, a circular scalloped-edge compact with a blue enamel lid and floral spray, and a simple gold-toned circular compact. The pieces are constructed from gold-toned and silver-toned metals with enamel and porcelain accents.

Condition report:
The items are in fair to good vintage condition. Mirrors in several compacts, notably the fan-shaped and blue enamel examples, exhibit desilvering, foxing, and spotting. General surface wear, including scratches and tarnishing, is visible on the metal finishes. The enamelled and porcelain surfaces show minor signs of use but remain largely intact. Some compacts contain original powder puffs with age-related wear and remnants of cosmetic powder.
