Description
A group of three wall-hanging items comprising an antique carved oak barometer and two decorative masks. The aneroid barometer is set within a late 19th or early 20th-century banjo-style oak case. The architectural frame features a pediment top with cross-hatching, deep foliate scrollwork carvings throughout the body, and a lower carved finial. It incorporates a central mercury thermometer mounted on a white porcelain scale marked in Fahrenheit and Centigrade, featuring annotations for Blood Heat, Heat, and Freezing. Below this is a five-inch diameter aneroid barometer dial with weather predictions in decorative script (Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, Very Dry), protected by a brass-rimmed glass bezel. The first mask is a mid-20th-century decorative wall piece carved from a single block of medium-toned wood. It depicts a stylised human profile influenced by West African aesthetics, featuring a textured wavy hairstyle, incised facial markings, and a large carved eye with radial details. The second mask is a mixed-media piece, constructed from a terracotta base with applied wooden and textured elements. It is hand-inscribed Cuba on the upper right leaf-shaped protrusion. The face features large leaf-like forms, a textured brow, and a prominent open mouth, finished in earthy tones of brown, ochre, and red.

Condition report:
The oak barometer case shows a rich patina with minor surface wear and dust accumulation within the deep carvings. The glass, dial, and thermometer appear intact. The internal mechanism has not been tested for accuracy. The wooden profile mask is in good overall condition with a polished finish and minor surface scuffing. The mixed-media Cuban mask shows minor surface wear to the decorative front, while the reverse terracotta base exhibits significant chipping and losses to the upper and side edges, including one large loss near the hanging point.
