Description
A cast iron still bank modelled in the form of a circus elephant. The figure is depicted in a walking stance with a raised trunk featuring a flared tip. The elephant is finished in a dark grey colour with white painted tusks and is adorned with a decorative howdah painted in red and gold. The bank is constructed from two cast halves secured by a single iron screw on the left flank. A vertical coin slot is located on the upper rump of the elephant. While the design shares aesthetic similarities with 19th-century mechanical banks, this example functions as a still bank with no internal mechanism. There are no visible maker’s marks or foundry stamps present.

Condition report:
The item shows significant signs of age and use. There is widespread paint loss and chipping across the body, legs, and howdah, exposing the dark metal beneath. The cast iron surface exhibits inherent roughness and minor pitting consistent with the casting process. No structural cracks or professional repairs are visible. The original securing screw is present and intact.
