Description

A vintage rectangular wooden sewing box featuring a hinged lid inset with a floral tapestry panel and a lift-out internal wooden tray. The box contains an assortment of sewing tools and ephemera, including an original instruction manual for the Singer Sewing Machine No. 99, dated 1916, featuring a blue-green cover and handwritten date notation. The collection includes multiple metal bobbins in a yellow plastic tray, numerous bundles of Anchor brand stranded cotton embroidery floss in various colours, and two wooden darning mushrooms, one finished in pale green and the other featuring a black and white transfer-decorated top. Additional items comprise a wooden souvenir needle case marked Shanklin Chine, a coiled yellow tape measure, assorted metal sewing machine presser feet, a card of black buttons, a novelty plastic miniature stein, and vintage cardboard packaging for a Sylkshene wardrobe bag.

Condition report:

The items exhibit age-related wear consistent with period use. The Singer instruction manual and other paper components show creasing, edge tears, and discolouration. The wooden box and upholstery show light surface marks and minor fading. Metal components such as bobbins and presser feet show varying degrees of surface oxidation. The overall collection is in good vintage condition.
