Lot 70:
Description
A group of two British wooden presentation trophies. The first, a smaller shield on a dark-stained wood backboard, represents the Boys’ Brigade Reading and District Battalion. It features a central silvered plaque with the organization’s anchor crest and the inscription READING AND DISTRICT BATTALION DRILL SHIELD. A scroll mounted at the top is inscribed PRESENTED BY RUTH LESLIE BAINTON 1ST EARLEY COMPANY. The shield is adorned with multiple smaller silvered plaques, with visible engravings including 1ST TWYFORD CO 1989, 3RD CHARLEY CO 1991, 2ND READING CO, 1ST CAVERSHAM CO 1990, and 2ND CAVERSHAM CO 1992. The second item is a larger light oak shield featuring a heavily embossed white-metal plaque with foliate and scrollwork borders. The central polished section is inscribed INTER-WORKS TROPHY positioned beneath a compass-rose motif.
Height (larger shield): Approximately 18.5 inches.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit significant oxidation and tarnishing to the metal plaques and components. The wooden backboards show minor surface scuffs, light scratches, and an accumulation of dust consistent with long-term display.
