Lot 106:
Description
A Victorian hardwood portable case, identified as a housing for an electrotherapy or induction coil shock machine, featuring solid wood construction with dovetail joinery. The exterior is fitted with brass hardware, including a turned handle to the top, four hook-and-eye latches, and a ring pull to the lower drop-front panel. The chest is designed with multiple access points, comprising a top-hinged lid and a bottom-hinged front panel, with a fixed central section. The interior is divided by a fixed horizontal shelf and a vertical partition in the upper section, creating distinct storage areas for apparatus. There are faint indentations to the top surface near the handle which are not readable as a name.
Height: 25.5 cm
Width: 26.5 cm
Depth: 20 cm.
Condition report:
The case is in good antique condition showing age-appropriate wear. Surface scuffs, light scratches, and a natural dark patina are visible across the wood surfaces (photo 1). There is minor chipping to the edges of the dovetail joinery. The brass components show surface oxidation and a dark patina (photo 1). One of the central hooks is currently disengaged (photo 2). The interior shows some white powdery residue and light staining in the upper compartment (photo 3). The item appears to be missing its original internal trays and scientific apparatus.
