Lot 225:
Description
A Royal Navy junior rating Class II cap constructed with a white fabric crown over a stiffened black textile band. The item is embellished with a black silk tally bearing the embroidered gold-coloured inscription H.M.S. COLLINGWOOD and is finished with a formal bow to the wearer’s left side. A black elasticated chin stay is secured to the interior. The design features a flared crown with a central vertical seam and a piped perimeter. This headgear corresponds to the uniform requirements for ratings assigned to the HMS Collingwood shore establishment in Fareham.
Diameter: 26.5 cm.
Condition report:
The cap is in very good overall condition with no visible signs of moth damage, heavy staining, or fraying. The white fabric crown shows minor storage-related creasing. The silk tally is well-preserved with bright gold embroidery and the bow remains neatly tied. The black elastic chin stay retains its elasticity.
