Description
A late 19th-century steel mechanical concertina corkscrew featuring a multiple-lever lazy tong mechanism. The construction comprises a cylindrical T-handle connected to a series of crossed expanding levers, terminating in a bell-shaped bottle neck guide and a central helical worm. The central crossbar is stamped with the characters IDEAL and BREVETE. The frame retains remnants of an original nickel-plated finish over the base steel.
Handle Width: 5 cm
Length: 15 cm.
Condition report:
Widespread surface oxidation and pitting across the steel frame and helical worm (photo 1). Substantial loss of the original nickel plating throughout (photo 2). The mechanical assembly remains functional and the worm is complete with a sharp point (photo 1).
