Lot 108:
Description
A pair of charcoal puppy drawings on off-white paper, each depicting a wire-haired terrier puppy in a playful recumbent pose. The illustrations are rendered with expressive line work and soft tonal shading to capture the texture of the coat. Each work is signed in the lower right corner with a circular monogram containing the letters CE and the name ALDIN. beneath which is a large capital A. The drawings are mounted behind glass with double-layered mats consisting of a cream outer border and a pinkish-tan inner bevel. Each is housed in a matching gilt-finished wooden frame with a classic bevelled profile.
Width: 84 cm.
Condition report:
Both drawings remain in good display condition with no visible tears or foxing to the paper. There is some minor even toning to the paper consistent with age. A small amount of dust and minor surface soot has accumulated beneath the glass in both frames (photos 1 and 2). The gilt frames show minor cracking to the gesso and small chips to the edges, most notably on the lower right corner of the right-hand frame (photo 1).
