A collection of large-format wooden technical drawing instruments primarily intended for classroom or blackboard demonstration. The group includes a large 45-degree set square of pegged wooden construction with an aged patina, stamped with the characters UNION SCHOOL SERIES on one arm and FYFE & COY, EDINBURGH on the other. Also included is a large boxwood semi-circular protractor featuring a central wooden handle, double-arc degree scales, and a linear 15-inch scale along the base, stamped with the mark MADE IN ENGLAND. The lot further comprises a velvet-lined case containing a set of nickel-plated drafting instruments including compasses and dividers, a wooden four-fold rule with brass hinges, a bundle of coloured wooden Cuisenaire rods, and two vintage cloth tape measures, one bearing the printed text A TRADE MARK OF THE SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. A modern red plastic whiteboard marker by Neubert is also present.
Width: 38 cm
Height: 25 cm.
Condition report:
The wooden set square shows significant surface wear, dark staining, and edge abrasions consistent with heavy use (photo 3). The wooden protractor remains in good vintage condition with minor surface scratches and light wear to the lower edge (photo 2). The drafting set appears complete within its case, though the exterior of the case shows scuffing and material loss at the corners (photo 1). The four-fold rule exhibits heavy oxidation to the brass components and darkening of the wood (photo 1). The tape measures show fraying to the edges and surface soiling.
