Lot 145:
Description
A set of metric laboratory weights housed in a rectangular mahogany case with a hinged lid and two brass hook-and-eye latches. The weights are constructed from turned brass with knob handles, featuring various verification stamps including a crown symbol, the number 34 within a shield-shaped border, and the letter B. The largest weight is stamped with 200g, followed by 100g, 50g, and two 20g weights. Smaller brass weights are marked 10, 5, 2, 2, and 1. The interior of the case is fitted with recessed compartments lined in purple velvet, and a glass-covered compartment contains several fractional foil weights. The lid features corresponding circular cutouts to protect the weights when closed.
Length: 19 cm.
Condition report:
The brass weights exhibit significant surface oxidation, tarnish, and minor pitting across all pieces (photo 2). The mahogany case shows surface scratches, wear to the finish, and small indentations to the edges (photo 1). The interior velvet lining is faded and shows deep indentations from the weight bases (photo 2). One circular compartment in the upper right and one rectangular slot at the front base are vacant.
