Description

A pair of natural bone cabinet knobs, each featuring a hand-decorated scrimshaw-style medallion inset into the circular face. The first medallion depicts a stag in an alert, standing posture within a naturalistic landscape, while the second shows a stag grazing. The scenes are rendered in fine line work with a palette of brown and green washes. Each knob is constructed with a flared, pedestal-style shank showing characteristic natural graining and pitting throughout the material. The bases are drilled and threaded for mounting. The surface displays a naturally aged yellowish patina. No maker marks or inscriptions are present.

Diameter: 3.8 cm.

Condition report:

Both items are in good stable condition. The material shows natural pitting and surface irregularities consistent with bone. There is light surface dirt and darkening to the recessed areas of the shanks. The hand-decorated medallions remain clear with minor age-related fading to the pigments.
