Description
A bronze commemorative badge issued to members of the Greek Sacred Band (Ieros Lochos) for land operations during the 1940-1941 conflict. The badge features a central vertical bar overlaid with a horizontal xiphos sword, all enclosed within a circular laurel wreath. The vertical bar is embossed with the Lacedaemonian phrase H TAN H EPI TAS, an ancient Spartan motto meaning ‘Either with it or on it’, referencing the shield. The reverse of the badge is hollow-struck and fitted with a horizontal brooch-style pin and hook catch. The reverse of the pin is stamped with the manufacturer’s mark WAD.
Condition report:
The badge is in good collectible condition with an even aged patina across the bronze surface. Minor surface wear and light pitting are visible on the obverse (photo 1). The reverse hardware, including the pin and catch, is intact and fully functional (photo 2). The manufacturer\'s stamp on the pin remains sharp and legible.
