Description
A Silver pendant necklace featuring a hand-carved shell cameo set within a rectangular frame. The oval cameo depicts a classical female profile in white relief against a brownish-orange ground, held in a plain bezel setting. The frame is designed with beveled corners and decorated with engraved geometric hatching in an Art Deco style. The pendant is suspended from a large tapered bail onto a flat snake link chain, also known as a herringbone style. The chain is secured with a spring ring clasp and a soldered jump ring. The silver components exhibit areas of natural oxidation, particularly within the recessed engravings of the frame. No legible hallmarks or maker’s marks are visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The silver frame and bail show significant oxidation and tarnish, particularly in the recessed geometric engravings (photo 2). The hand-carved shell cameo shows softening to the edges of the carving and surface dirt consistent with age (photo 2). The flat snake chain exhibits typical minor surface abrasions and small kinks from wear (photo 1). The spring ring clasp is present and functional.
