Description

An antique cotton Broderie Anglaise christening gown dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The garment is constructed from fine white cotton lawn with long sleeves and an elongated skirt. The bodice features vertical pintucks and inset lace panels, while the lower skirt and hem are decorated with extensive broderie anglaise eyelet embroidery depicting floral motifs and finished with a scalloped edge. The sleeves terminate in lace-trimmed cuffs, and the piece secures with a small button at the rear neckline. Also included is a vintage Satin christening gown from the mid-20th century, featuring a high-waisted yoke bodice with floral silk embroidery at the neckline and gathered skirts finished with wide lace trim at the hem. The collection is completed by a vintage smocked matinee coat in ivory synthetic satin. The jacket features a wide smocked yoke across the chest and shoulders, a Peter Pan collar, and delicate lace edging, with two functional buttons at the front.

Condition report:

The antique cotton gown is in good condition with minor creasing and light yellowing consistent with age (photo 5). The satin gown is heavily creased throughout and has a small brown stain located on the front centre of the skirt (photo 3). The smocked matinee coat shows minor storage creasing but otherwise remains in good condition (photo 4).
