Lot 74:
Description
A Parisian cigarette holder featuring a long black ebonite stem with a tapered mouthpiece. The end section is constructed from marbled orange reconstituted amber, showing characteristic translucent inclusions. The item is housed in its original fitted presentation case, which features a maroon faux-leather exterior and a cream silk and velvet-lined interior. A gold-stamped label is visible on the interior silk of the lid, featuring an octagonal cartouche containing the text FABRIQUE and PARISIENNE; the central portion of the name is partially worn but contains the letters A T. Further to the right of the cartouche, the lid is stamped with the phrase AMBRE VÉRITABLE RECONSTITUÉ in gold capitals.
Length: 10.5 cm.
Condition report:
The ebonite stem exhibits light surface scuffing and minor handling wear throughout (photo 1). The reconstituted amber section shows minor darkening and charring to the rim of the bowl consistent with use (photo 2). The presentation case displays significant wear to the exterior corners and hinges (photo 1). The interior silk lining is frayed, discoloured, and shows staining, particularly at the resting point of the mouthpiece (photo 2). The gold stamping on the interior lid is partially faded and worn.
