Lot 23:
Description
A hand-carved wood sculpture of a Great Indian Rhinoceros, modelled in a walking posture with realistic anatomical features. The figure is carved from a dense, dark brown hardwood with a polished patina and visible grain. It features the single horn and distinctive skin folds characteristic of the species, with the surface decorated with intricate raised circular textures to represent dermal tubercles. The animal’s eyes are set with small, light-coloured circular inlays. The underside of the feet shows the natural grain of the wood and the construction marks from the carving process. There are no legible maker’s marks or signatures present on the piece.
Length: 8 1/4 inches
Height: 4 1/2 inches.
