Lot 125:
Description
A modern decorative decanter with a matching stopper, produced in the style of Mesoamerican art. The piece is of Mexican origin, consistent with artisan-made souvenir wares. The vessel is constructed from polychrome glazed ceramic or composite material. The front features a central motif of an Aztec warrior, possibly an Eagle or Jaguar warrior, emerging from the jaws of a feline predator. This figure is accented with green cabochon eyes and flanked by stylised cream-coloured wings. The removable stopper is modelled as a perched eagle with outstretched wings, referencing the Aztec cuāuhtli. The reverse of the bottle displays relief-moulded designs including a feathered serpent, reminiscent of Quetzalcoatl, and solar motifs against a glossy black ground. No maker’s marks are visible on the body or stopper.
Condition report:
The item is in good decorative condition. There are no significant chips, cracks, or visible signs of repair. The polychrome finish remains vibrant and intact.
