Description
A precision engineer’s spirit level manufactured by J. Rabone and Sons of Birmingham, England. The instrument is constructed with a cast iron base finished in black japanning. The upper assembly consists of a polished metal cylindrical housing with knurled adjustment sections and a revolving protective cover for the sealed glass spirit vial. The maker’s mark is embossed on a raised metal band reading J. RABONE & SONS and MADE IN ENGLAND. This instrument was designed for the high-accuracy levelling of machinery and engineering components.
Condition report:
The tool is in good vintage condition and remains functional with a reactive bubble. The glass vial is intact. The polished metal housing shows minor surface scratches and light wear consistent with workshop use. The japanned finish on the base displays minor oxidation and light wear in the recessed areas. The adjustment mechanisms and mounting screws are present.
