Lot 161:
Description
This precision machinist’s or engineer’s spirit level features a design similar to the Stanley No. 45 iron level. The tool is constructed with a dark metal body, likely cast iron, and a polished brass top faceplate. The faceplate is secured to the body with six slotted screws. A central glass or plastic vial is set within the body, containing a green-tinted fluid. The level is accompanied by its original two-part protective sleeve, manufactured from a cast metal alloy, possibly aluminium or zinc. No maker’s marks or manufacturer stamps are visible on the tool or the case.
Condition report:
The level is in good vintage condition. The brass faceplate displays surface wear, light scratches, and minor oxidation commensurate with professional workshop use. The spirit vial remains intact and functional, with the bubble clearly visible. The two-part cast metal case shows significant surface oxidation, dullness, and some pitting, though it remains structurally sound and provides protection for the tool. The accuracy of the level has not been verified.
