Description
A collection of mid-20th century vanity items, primarily comprising powder compacts, cigarette cases, and small accessory boxes. The pieces are constructed from various materials including gold-tone and silver-tone metals, enamel, and leather, with some examples featuring faux-tortoiseshell or celluloid finishes. Decorative treatments include engine-turned patterns, Art Deco-inspired geometric motifs, and floral designs. Specific items of note include a circular souvenir compact featuring a colour illustration of a woman playing a zither labelled Seoul Korea, a silver-tone compact decorated with a rhinestone-set swan, a novelty gold-tone case in the form of a grand piano, and two envelope-style cases in blue and silver-tone finishes. The collection includes various shapes such as circular, square, and rectangular forms, many retaining internal mirrors and hinged closures. One item is presented in a brown leather protective pouch.
