Description
This collection consists of five items of automobilia issued by the Automobile Association (AA) in the United Kingdom. The group includes four radiator grille badges and one square vehicle plaque. The radiator grille badges are designed with an interlocking AA logo within a stylized frame, topped with a winged mascot. These are constructed from plated cast metal with yellow backplates in both metal and plastic. Each grille badge is individually serialised on the base with the marks 0Y75379, 6C85908, 8C89157, and 2E33155. The reverse of the metal backplates bears the embossed inscription: THIS IS THE PROPERTY OF THE AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION LONDON W.1. The square badge features a black AA logo on a yellow ground within a bevelled frame. The reverse of this plaque is cast with: PROPERTY OF NO 20797 and THIS BADGE IS THE PROPERTY OF THE AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION LONDON W.C.2. All badges retain their mounting hardware, including threaded bolts and crossbars.
Radiator grille badges: 12.5 cm x 9.5 cm
Square badge: 5.7 cm x 5.7 cm.
Condition report:
The collection shows varying states of preservation. Three of the radiator grille badges exhibit significant pitting to the plating, surface oxidation, and wear to the yellow painted surfaces. One grille badge (serial 6C85908) presents in a cleaner state with a brighter finish and a plastic backplate. The square badge shows light surface scratches and minor tarnish to the reverse metal.
