Lot 213:
Description
A patinated Bronze figure of Saint George, being a small-scale reduction of the 15th-century marble original by Donatello commissioned for the Orsanmichele in Florence. The youthful figure is depicted in Renaissance-style armour with a cloak draped over the shoulder and the left hand resting upon a large kite-shaped shield. The work is set upon an integral, flat rectangular metal base. While no signatures, foundry marks, or edition numbers are visible, this specific model and scale are consistently attributed to the Ferdinand Barbedienne foundry in Paris. The sculpture features a dark brown patina with characteristic highlights on the raised points of the face, hair, and armour.
Height: 22 cm.
Condition report:
The figure is in good condition with the dark brown patina well-preserved. There are minor highlights and surface wear consistent with age on the raised points of the casting. No visible chips, cracks, or repairs are noted.
