Lot 214:
Description
A large Rococo revival style mantel clock featuring a cast brass case with a bright gold-tone finish. The case is heavily ornamented with scrolling foliate motifs, acanthus leaves, and floral swags, surmounted by a prominent urn-shaped finial with a fleur-de-lis ornament. The dial comprises an engine-turned gold-toned centre surrounded by twelve individual white cartouches, each bearing black Roman numeral hour markers and fitted with decorative black-finished metal hands. Below the dial is a rectangular glazed panel featuring frosted etched floral decoration. The reverse of the clock has a hinged, circular brass-toned cover. The item stands on an elaborate integral base with scrolling feet. The case design is consistent with mid-20th century models produced by Imperial and Franz Hermle.
Height: 48cm.
Condition report:
The cast brass case shows minor surface wear and light oxidation consistent with age. The original mechanical movement has been replaced with a modern battery-operated quartz movement. The movement is sold as untested and requires a battery.
