Lot 250:
Description
This collection comprises six varied corkscrews of 19th and 20th-century manufacture. The group includes two novelty cast brass corkscrews modelled after the Manneken Pis statue in Brussels, with one featuring a straight steel worm and the other an angled worm; both bases are incised with the word BRUXELLES. Also included is a traditional direct-pull corkscrew featuring a natural stag antler handle, a steel shank with a decorative collar, and a star-cut metal disc. A multi-tool corkscrew is present, featuring a turned dark wood T-handle fitted with a natural fibre dust brush and a curved steel foil-cutting blade. The collection is completed by a utilitarian corkscrew with a light-coloured turned hardwood handle and a mid-20th-century all-metal combination corkscrew and bottle opener with a polished finish.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition. The steel worms on all pieces remain intact with functional points. The multi-tool shows evidence of age-related pitting and oxidation to the steel components, and the natural fibre brush shows expected thinning. The brass novelty items exhibit a natural aged patina. All handles are securely attached to the shanks. The all-metal combination tool retains a high-polish surface.
