Description
A vintage novelty desk pen set featuring an encapsulated marine scene within a resin base. The base is formed from a faceted hexagonal block of clear synthetic resin, commonly referred to as Lucite, which has aged to a deep amber-coloured tint. Contained within the resin is a preserved whole crab, multiple seashells, and starfish positioned on a substrate of sand and gravel. The set includes a tapered black resin desk pen with a gold-toned tip, mounted in a gold-toned metal swivel socket. This style of accessory was a popular coastal souvenir during the mid-20th century, specifically the 1960s and 1970s. No manufacturer marks are present on the item.

Condition report:
The set is in good vintage condition. The Lucite base shows surface scuffing and light scratches from previous use. The resin has undergone significant yellowing or ambering, a common occurrence with polymers of this period. There is minor pitting and loss of lustre to the gold-toned plating on the swivel mount. The pen barrel is free from cracks or deep abrasions. Writing functionality is not guaranteed and the pen likely requires a new refill.
