Description

A pair of Soviet-era 12×40 porro prism binoculars manufactured by the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant (ZOMZ) in Sergiyev Posad, Russia. The instrument features a metal body with a black textured leatherette grip and black enamel finish on the prism housings and objective tubes. The left prism cover is marked with the ZOMZ factory logo, the Cyrillic model designation БПЦ 12×40, and the text MADE IN USSR. The central hinge plate is inscribed with the serial number N7670149 in green characters. The binoculars are equipped with a central focusing wheel, a dioptre adjustment on the right eyepiece, and an interpupillary distance scale marked from 60 to 70 on the central bridge. The 40mm objective lenses exhibit a blue and purple anti-reflective coating. The lot includes a thin black neck strap and is housed in its original black hardshell carrying case with a black velvet-lined interior, metal latch, and an adjustable tan leather shoulder strap.

Case height: approximately 19 cm.

Condition report:

The binoculars are in good vintage condition. The external body and enamel finish show minor signs of use consistent with age. The lenses appear clear with the anti-reflective coating intact; no significant surface scratches or internal clouding are visible. The mechanical components, including the focusing wheel and dioptre, are functional. The carrying case shows surface scuffing and the leather strap exhibits age-related wear. Internal collimation and the presence of internal dust or fungus have not been professionally verified.
