Description
Two sets of Russian matryoshka nesting dolls, comprising a seven-piece set and a five-piece set, crafted from hand-painted and lacquered wood. The larger seven-piece set is decorated on a dark green ground and features narrative vignettes on each doll depicting figures in traditional Russian dress and characters on horseback, illustrating scenes from folk tales. The second five-piece set is finished in a red and gold palette, adorned with white floral motifs and lace-patterned headscarves. These items represent late 20th-century decorative work consistent with traditional Russian souvenir-ware. No Cyrillic signatures, hallmarks, or maker’s marks are visible on the exterior bodies of the items.
Largest green doll: 23 cm height
Largest red doll: 18 cm height.
Condition report:
The items are in good overall condition. There are minor surface scuffs and light wear to the lacquer finish consistent with age and handling.
