Description
A rectangular log or coal box of wooden construction, clad on the front and sides with machine-pressed brass sheeting. The front panel features a relief scene depicting figures in a traditional tavern or inn interior, framed by trees and a decorative heart-motif border. The side panels are decorated with an all-over embossed pattern of scrolls and foliage. The brass is secured to the wooden carcass with small tacks. The box features a hinged lid with a button-tufted padded seat, upholstered in red dralon fabric. The interior and back panel are finished in black paint. A white safety label is affixed to the underside of the lid with the text CARELESSNESS CAUSES FIRE, indicating a production for the British market.

Condition report:
The item is in good vintage condition. The brass cladding retains a bright, polished finish with minimal tarnishing. The red upholstery shows light wear consistent with age but remains free of significant tears. The black-painted interior and back panel exhibit surface scuffing and scratches consistent with functional use.
