Description

This lot comprises two brass objects. The first is a small curved brass horn, likely a post or cyclist’s horn, featuring a bell stamped with the maker’s mark J. TOURNIER, BREVETÉ, 4, BOULEVARD ST MARTIN, PARIS. The horn is constructed from sheet brass and includes two soldered suspension rings and a turned dark wood mouthpiece. The second item is a cast brass door knocker in the Neoclassical style, featuring a lion mask holding a shaped knocker ring. The reverse is hollow-cast with a central threaded mounting post and two secondary screw holes. The front of the knocker has been polished to a bright finish, while the reverse retains a dark, aged patina.

Horn length: 18 cm

Door knocker length: 11.5 cm.

Condition report:

The horn shows a significant dent to one side of the bell along with surface scratches and areas of tarnishing. The mouthpiece is intact but exhibits wear consistent with age. The door knocker is in generally good condition with crisp casting details; there is minor oxidation in the recessed areas and surface wear to the reverse.
