Description
A gimballed marine compass produced by Silva of Sweden, model LB 33. The instrument is constructed with a black moulded plastic housing and a U-shaped gimbal mounting bracket designed to allow the compass to remain level. The compass features a black dial with white degree markings from 0 to 360 and cardinal direction points, viewed through a clear plastic bezel. The needle is bi-coloured in red and white. Visible markings on the central dial include LB 33 SILVA and MADE IN SWEDEN. The lot includes a two-part polystyrene storage box with a Suunto manufacturer label and an instruction booklet for Suunto models U-90, F-90, D-90, DU-90, C-90, and CU-90, along with a mounting template for Suunto U/F-90 models.
Condition report:
The compass appears to be in good used condition with clear fluid and legible markings. The gimbal mechanism moves freely. There is some minor surface dust and light scratching to the plastic housing and bezel consistent with previous use. The accompanying Suunto packaging and manual show age-related wear, including staining and scuffing to the polystyrene and paper. It is noted that the compass is of Swedish manufacture (Silva), while the box and instructions are of Finnish manufacture (Suunto).
