Lot 115:
Description
A traditional hand-carved wooden printing block designed for textile applications. The block is constructed from a single piece of dense hardwood with a prominent diagonal grain visible on the reverse side. The face features an intricate, symmetrical relief-carved pattern consisting of six lobed sections arranged in two rows of three. Each section contains stylized foliate and scrollwork motifs with deep carving intended to hold pigment for transfer to fabric. The style is characteristic of traditional Indian woodblock printing techniques. There are no maker marks, patent dates, or inscriptions visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The block is in a well-used condition. Significant dark pigment and ink staining are present across the carved surface, consistent with professional use. Minor wear and softening are visible on the fine edges of the relief carving along with small chips. The wooden block remains structurally sound with no evidence of major cracks or repairs.
