Lot 144:
Description
This collection comprises a diverse range of British military memorabilia and ephemera spanning the 20th and 21st centuries. A significant portion of the lot consists of Royal Air Force service documents belonging to Corporal Colly, service numbers 4061475 and 4061457. These include several blue RAF Form 618 Notebooks for use in Schools and a tan RAF Form 714 Rough Notebook for use in Laboratories and Workshops. Markings indicate use during a No 6 General Service Training (G.S.T.) Course and at No 1 Basic Training Centre (B.T.C.), with dates circa 1951. One notebook contains extensive handwritten technical notes and diagrams regarding Elementary Theory Rifle, including a cross-section of Mark VII .303 ammunition with details on ballistics and muzzle velocity.
The lot features a World War I commemorative trench art plaque. The piece consists of a white veined marble base inscribed Maillij to the top and 1915 to the bottom. Mounted to the marble is a metal Cross Pattée flanked by two rifle projectiles, one of which shows significant impact distortion.
Additional items include a souvenir programme for the Coronation of H.M. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, dated May 1937. Modern commemorative items include a There But Not There 2018 Armistice project Perspex silhouette in its original box with related literature. The collection is completed by several items of modern Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP) camouflage equipment, including rank slides featuring Sergeant’s chevrons and a blue and red tactical recognition flash, typically associated with the Royal Engineers.
Condition report:
The RAF service notebooks and the 1937 Coronation programme show expected signs of age and service use, including edge wear, creasing, staining, and light foxing, though the interior manuscript notes remain clear and legible. The trench art plaque is in stable condition with authentic surface grime and a heavy patina to the metal components. The 2018 commemorative silhouette appears to be in excellent, near-mint condition in its original packaging. The modern MTP items show only light signs of use.
