Description
A large and varied collection of assorted picture and photograph frames in various styles and sizes. The lot comprises examples in silver-plated metal, brass and gilt-toned metal, wood, and composite materials. Notable pieces include a large rectangular frame featuring an intricate pierced filigree silver-toned border, an ornate cast frame in the Rococo Revival style with scrolling acanthus leaf and floral motifs, and several modernist thin-profile polished metal frames.
One small oval frame retains a tri-lingual label reading SILVER PLATED, VERSILBERT, ARGENTÉ. Two rectangular wooden frames contain printed inserts marked Bronze véritable. The collection includes various aperture shapes such as rectangular, oval, and circular. Several frames are fitted with fabric liners in materials such as green velvet and burlap. Two frames contain decorative inserts: one depicting a Victorian-style portrait of a girl and another featuring a miniature landscape scene. Construction methods include mitred joinery for wooden examples and cast or pierced decorative metal elements.
Condition report:
The collection is in overall fair to good vintage condition. Visible surface tarnishing and oxidisation are present on the metal frames, consistent with age. There are minor scuffs, scratches, and edge wear to the wooden and composite frames. The large green-backed frame shows notable wear to the corners. Most frames appear to retain their glass and original backing boards, though some dust and light surface grime are present throughout the lot.
