Lot 183:
Description
A twin-handled lidded sugar bowl manufactured by Royal Crown Derby in the Old Imari pattern, number 1128. The piece is crafted from fine English bone china and features an oval-bodied form with two scrolled white handles decorated with gilded accents. It is fitted with a matching domed lid topped by a circular knob finial. The decoration is executed in the traditional Imari palette, utilizing underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red, heavily enriched with 22-carat gold gilding. The design includes intricate panels of geometric diaper patterns alternating with stylized floral and foliate motifs. Both the base and the lid carry the printed red Royal Crown Derby backstamp, featuring a crown above an interlaced monogram of the letters V and D, surrounded by the factory name and English Bone China. The pattern number 1128 and the Roman numeral date code XLI identify the manufacture year as 1978. Small hand-painted marks in red are present, an A on the base and an X on the lid.
Condition report:
The item is in very good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The gilding remains bright and shows only minimal signs of wear. A small patch of adhesive residue from a previous label is present on the underside of the base.
