Lot 213:
Description
A small Chinese cloisonné enamel bowl of compressed globular form. The exterior is decorated with polychrome floral sprigs, including plum blossoms and other seasonal flowers, set against a pale yellow ground. The upper rim is finished with a decorative border of ruyi-head motifs in turquoise, white, and dark red. The interior features a deep turquoise blue ground with a central floral medallion depicting a pink peony surrounded by smaller multi-coloured blossoms and foliage. The base has an inset circular panel finished in plain turquoise enamel. The bowl is crafted using the cloisonné technique with fine metal wires applied to a base metal body, with the exposed metal of the rim and foot-ring showing a dark patina. No maker’s marks or inscriptions are visible.
Condition report:
The bowl shows signs of age consistent with a mid-20th-century piece. There is minor surface pitting inherent to the firing process and small scattered enamel losses, particularly visible on the white sections of the ruyi-head border. The exposed metal rim and foot-ring show a natural dark aged patina.
