Description

A collection of three Eastern devotional statuettes. The principal figure is a Tibetan style patinated bronze or brass representation of Je Tsongkhapa, founder of the Gelug school. The figure is depicted seated in dhyanasana upon a double-lotus throne, wearing the distinctive high pointed hat. The hands are held in a mudra, with stems of lotus blossoms rising from the elbows to flank the shoulders. The underside is sealed with a copper-toned base plate featuring a central stamped vishvavajra (double thunderbolt) emblem. The second figure is a Chinese style cast brass incense burner modelled as Budai (the Laughing Buddha), shown seated with a hollowed bowl in his lap for charcoal or incense. The third figure is a small dark metal statuette of Gautama Buddha, seated in meditation with the right hand in Abhaya mudra, featuring traditional snail-shell curls and a prominent ushnisha.

Condition report:

The central Tsongkhapa figure shows age-related wear to the dark patina and minor surface abrasions. The Budai incense burner is in fair condition with notable surface wear and significant carbonised residue and pitting within the bowl consistent with use. The small Buddha figure is in good condition with minor surface wear.
