Lot 84:
Description
Two hand-carved wooden goblet drums. The first drum is a djembe-style instrument with a dark brown finished shell. The base of the drum is decorated with hand-painted white motifs consisting of dots and celestial star designs. It is fitted with a natural skin head, likely goatskin, which is secured by a black synthetic rope tensioning system. The second drum features a light-toned natural wood shell with a turned bulbous mid-section and a flared base. This drum is fitted with a natural hide head that retains some hair and is secured with white rope cross-lacing. No maker’s marks, labels, or serial numbers are visible on either instrument.
Condition report:
Both drums appear to be in good overall condition. The larger drum has an intact head and the rope tensioning is secure. The smaller drum shows natural variation in the wood grain and some wear to the hide head consistent with use. There is some loose white rope on the side of the smaller drum.
