Description
A vintage German-made mechanical novelty music box featuring a hedgehog figure designed in the Mecki style. The toy consists of a wooden rectangular base that serves as a housing for the musical mechanism. The top of the box is decorated with a hand-painted Alpine landscape depicting a mountain chalet and a banner bearing the inscription TIROL. The hedgehog figure is constructed from felt and plush fabric with a moulded composition face and stiff bristle hair. It is dressed in a red waistcoat and checked shirt. The figure is attached to a metal crank handle on one side of the box and two wooden handles on the opposite side. When the crank is turned, the music box plays and the figure’s arms move in a reciprocating motion to simulate the action of pushing the cart. The underside of the wooden base is stamped with two lines of German text: Gesetzlich geschützt and Patent angemeldet.
Condition report:
The toy shows signs of age and play wear. The hand-painted scene on the top of the wooden box exhibits surface wear and minor scratches. The wooden base has various scuffs and small nicks along the edges. The felt clothing on the hedgehog figure shows age-related fading and light surface dusting. All mechanical connections appear present; however, the functional working order of the music box mechanism has not been tested.
