Lot 119:
Description
A vintage novelty bottle opener crafted in the form of a stylized fish. The object features a yellow-toned metal frame decorated with an inlay technique. The body is finished with a green marbled resin ground, which is further embellished with pieces of iridescent abalone shell shaped into floral and leaf-like patterns. A large white circular inlay with a black centre serves as the eye of the fish. The mouth of the fish is functionally shaped to act as a bottle cap lifter. This piece is characteristic of mid-century Mexican decorative metalwork, often associated with artisanal productions from the Taxco region. No maker marks or stamps are visible on the exterior of the piece.
Condition report:
The bottle opener is in good vintage condition. There is observable surface wear and a natural patina and tarnish to the exposed metal edges, which is consistent with age and use. The shell and resin inlay work appears to be largely intact and well-preserved.
