Lot 140:
Description
This collection consists of several hand-carved wooden cookie moulds, traditionally used for creating Springerle or speculaas biscuits. The assortment includes one large multi-panel board and multiple smaller individual or multi-image moulds, all rendered in deep relief carving. The large rectangular board features twelve carved panels arranged in three rows of four. The top row depicts figures in 17th and 18th-century attire, including a noblewoman, a cavalier, and a gentleman in a frock coat. The middle row contains a couple, a woman with a swaddled infant, a figure in a structure, and a putto. The bottom row consists of four distinct figures on horseback. The smaller moulds vary in subject matter, including a four-panel botanical and fruit mould, a six-panel insect and small animal mould, a single-panel stag, a basket of flowers, a dog with a basket, and a standing figure. The wood exhibits a dark patina consistent with historical use. On the reverse of the large board, there are faint incised characters including N, o, and 5 followed by further illegible markings. A small metal hanging loop is present on the top edge of the largest piece.
Condition report:
The collection is in good antique/vintage condition, showing signs of historical use and age. The wood has a developed patina with surface staining, scattered scratches, and minor nicks to the edges. The reverse of the large board shows more pronounced surface wear and scratching.
