Description

A late 19th-centuryBronze desktop inkwell of compressed globular form featuring a wide flared flange. The piece is supported by three spherical ball feet. A domed, hinged lid opens to reveal a removable white ceramic or porcelain ink liner seated within the central well. The exterior of the lid features a central circular brass-lined aperture. The underside of the inkwell shows a single central screw-head. There are no visible maker’s marks or inscriptions on the piece.

Condition report:

The item is in fair to good antique condition with signs of age-related wear. The surface shows scattered scuffs, minor scratches, and small indentations consistent with domestic use. There is variation in the tone and patina of the wood finish. The central aperture on the lid likely originally held a decorative finial, which is now missing. The white ceramic liner appears intact and free of significant cracks or chips. The hinge mechanism remains functional. One of the spherical feet shows a minor flat spot or surface loss from wear.
