Description
A collection of vintage metal and enamel lapel badges primarily relating to the 1984-85 UK Miners Strike and the National Union of Mineworkers (N.U.M.). The group includes various colliery branch identifications such as Emley Moor Branch N.U.M., Bullcliffe Wood Branch, Coventry Colliery, Royston Drift Branch, and Clipstone Branch N.U.M. Specific strike-related commemorative and support badges are present, including an Orgreave June 18th 1984 miners strike pin, an Oxford Miners Support Group 1984-85 badge, a Jailed Miners release political prisoners pin, and a Manvers N.U.M. Picket 84-85 shield. Also included are a National Coal Board Mines Rescue Service badge, a Loyal to the National Union Silverhill Bentinck 84-85 pin, a Women’s Support Group Ashfield Strikers oval badge, and a commemorative red enamel poppy pin paired with a gold-tone miner’s safety lamp. The badges are constructed from base metals with multi-coloured enamel detailing in various geometric and shield shapes.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition overall. Visible signs of age include minor surface scratches to the enamel, light oxidation, and tarnishing to the metal edges and reverse sides. Pin fastenings appear intact where visible.
