Description

This lot comprises two Egyptian Revival style figurines cast in a yellow-toned metal, such as brass or bronze, mounted on stone bases. The first figurine is a bust of Queen Nefertiti, wearing her iconic flat-topped crown and a broad decorative collar. It is set upon a rectangular black stone plinth, possibly slate or marble, which features two rows of incised pseudo-hieroglyphic characters highlighted with white infill on the front face. The second figurine depicts a seated jackal representing the deity Anubis, wearing a collar. This figure is mounted on a variegated brown marble base with bevelled edges. Both figures exhibit a polished finish with some natural surface patina. These items are characteristic of the 20th-century Egyptian tourist trade and the broader Egyptian Revival decorative movement.

Condition report:

Both pieces are in good overall condition consistent with age. The Nefertiti bust has visible oxidation or adhesive residue at the point of attachment to the stone base. The Anubis figure shows minor surface wear and light scratching to the metalwork. Both stone bases exhibit minor shelf-wear and small nibbles along the edges.
