Lot 78:
Description
A framed entomological display featuring multiple specimens of the Morpho genus, attributed to Morpho didius, known for their iridescent blue dorsal wing surfaces. The butterflies are vertically arranged against an off-white mounting board and set within a dark-stained rectangular wooden shadow-box frame. The lower right-hand corner of the mount contains a cursive handwritten inscription reading Brasil, signifying the specimens’ geographic origin.
Height: 38 cm (15 inches)
Width: 14 cm (5.5 inches).
Condition report:
The specimens exhibit significant uneven light-related fading, specifically to the right-hand wings which have transitioned from the original blue to a brownish-purple colour. The mounting board shows general age-related yellowing. The frame remains stable with light surface wear and minor scuffing consistent with age.
