Description

A lot comprising two scientific/navigational instruments. The primary item is a desktop aneroid barometer by Rapport London. The instrument features a visible three-cell aneroid mechanism housed within a clear glass hemispherical dome, suspended on a brass gimbal frame. The silvered annular dial is engraved Rapport London and displays two scales: an outer scale measuring atmospheric pressure in centimetres of mercury (70 to 77) and an inner scale in millibars (930 to 1060). The instrument is mounted on a rectangular dark-stained wooden base. Affixed to the front of the base is a brass presentation plaque inscribed Happy Anniversary 22nd February 1993. The second item is a brass lensatic-style sighting compass. It features a hinged lid, thumb loop, and a liquid-filled capsule with a floating white card dial marked with cardinal directions and dual scales in degrees (0-360) and mils (0-64).

Condition report:

The barometer appears to be in good cosmetic condition with a clear glass dome and intact brass components; the mechanical function is untested. The compass contains numerous large air bubbles within the damping liquid, which may affect the stability and accuracy of the floating card. Minor surface wear and tarnish are visible on both brass instruments.
